Welcome to the 56th NBS Contact Meeting 2020 23 – 26 January

Welcome to Voss and the 56th Contact Meeting of the Norwegian Biochemical Society! The organizing committee in Bergen is delighted to host the 2020 meeting in cooperation with the Norwegian Society for Microbiology (NFM). The event will take place from January 23-26, 2020, at Park Hotel Vossevangen. We are also planning a pre-event for early-career scientists from January 22-23.

The contact meetings are well known for showcasing high quality science, with a rather broad coverage across fields of molecular life science. No exception to this, we are proud to present excellent international and national scientists within the fields of cell and developmental biology, structural biology, RNA biology, systems biology, neuroscience, immunology, and microbial biodiversity. There will be eight plenary sessions given by our excellent invited speakers, while every delegate will have the opportunity to present their own research either in a minisymposium talk or as a poster. In addition, there will be a special session on education in biosciences.

The NBS Contact meeting is an excellent arena for Master and PhD students to communicate their science to a wide national and international audience, perhaps for the first time. The meeting is a place where you encounter new and old collaborators, mentors and friends. It offers an opportunity to lift your gaze and learn about ongoing life science research – a pleasant remedy for the tunnel vision we often experience in our daily scientific routine.

Voss is located about an hour from Bergen or less than six hours from Oslo by train. For those arriving by plane, there will also be set up direct transport from Bergen airport to Voss. The village of Voss is well known for its long agricultural traditions and for fostering many winter sport world cup and Olympic champions. The area is popular not only for its many opportunities to do winter sports, but also for extreme sport activities. The Voss farming area is also well known for its traditional food and beer brewing, being one of the few remaining areas in Norway where the farmhouse brewing tradition has been kept alive.

During the conference there will be time set aside for socializing and skiing. This summer Voss Gondol opened just next to the conference hotel. The gondola will take you from the venue to the top of Hanguren in just 8.5 minutes. There you find Voss Resort with easy access to a vast variety of alpine and cross-country skiing.

Best regards,
NBS division Bergen
